Mother's Day: The Gift That Keeps on Giving

Mother's Day: The Gift That Keeps on Giving

Kate Glover, 05/02/2016

Mother’s Day is just around the corner. We all love our moms and want them to live forever, but the fact is, the population just keeps getting sicker every year. Just one of the increasingly prevalent illnesses in our country is type 2 diabetes. Millions of new cases of type 2 diabetes are diagnosed annually, and it’s so common that “in adults 20 and older, more than one in every 10 people suffers from diabetes.”

Diabetes causes blood glucose levels to rise higher than normal, and if you have type 2 diabetes your body does not use insulin properly. If it goes untreated, complications of the disease can include heart disease, stroke, hypertension, blindness and eye problems, kidney disease, nervous system complications, and amputations.

The good news is that, while it is a very common illness, it is also highly preventable. Many of the risk factors of developing type 2 diabetes are due to lifestyle decisions and can be prevented and remedied with “regular physical activity and a healthy diet.” In addition to too much daily inactivity, most Americans are are also used to an unhealthy, processed, fattening diet. Because of these harmful habits, statistics of diabetes and obesity continue to climb.

Don’t let your mom become a statistic--help her get her health back on track. A session with a nutrition coach could be just what your mom needs to help her on her journey to better health, and it would be the perfect Mother’s Day gift! In this session, she’d be able to talk with someone who truly understands nutrition to help her achieve optimal health. They’d know just which superfoods to recommend for your super mom.

Trying to undo years of bad eating habits is hard -- especially when you are doing it alone. That’s why we highly recommend a health coach when you or your loved ones want to make diet changes. Our health coaches can give you effective strategies for combating late night binges and overcoming an I don’t care attitude.

You don’t have to do it alone.

What better gift is there than keeping your family together, healthy and happy, for as long as possible? Make sure you can enjoy Mother’s Day with your mom for years to come. Our coaches are here to help!
