Spinach, kale, collard greens, watercress...whatever your preference, leafy greens are some of the healthiest, most nutritious foods out there. We’d all benefit from adding more to our diet! That being said, we know it can be difficult to fit greens into your daily diet. That’s why every Monday we’ll share one of our favorite green smoothie recipes with you.
Whether you’re a healthy eating pro and leafy greens are your favorite part of your diet, or you’re new to healthy eating and aren’t sure where to start, green smoothies are an easy way to increase your daily fruit and vegetable intake. Start your week off right by trying one of our recipes or creating your own!
Speaking of creating your own, this week we decided to make a smoothie recipe that was submitted by one of our community members!
The combination of mango and banana will make you feel like you should be sipping this smoothie on a beach, and it also has a pleasant nutty aftertaste.
While mango has a relatively low level of antioxidants compared to other fruits, “it may have potent anti-cancer properties.” Even though mango may not be an antioxidant powerhouse, kale sure is. Packed with fiber, potassium, folate, phosphorus, protein, vitamins A, C, and K, kale is one of the best nutrient-dense foods you can eat.
We used frozen mango to make this smoothie. Frozen fruit (especially when your desired fruit is out of season) is a great option for smoothie-making. If you buy frozen fruit in bulk, you can have it on hand whenever you want to make a smoothie. And you won’t need to add ice because it will be cold enough already! Here’s the recipe:
Serving Size: 1
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Ingredients:
2 cups kale
1 cup mango
1/3 banana
1 tbsp raw almonds
1 tbsp ground flax seeds
1/2 cup unsweetened soy milk
1/4 cup water
Instructions:
Toss all of the ingredients into a high powered blender and enjoy!
