Snacking: possibly one of the easiest areas to slip up when it comes to healthy eating. That bag of chips at a party, the cookies just sitting on the kitchen counter, those M&Ms calling your name from the cabinet -- you get the point. It can be easy to mindlessly snack on whatever food you have in front of you and quickly lose track of portion sizes. And often, we end up eating because, well, the food is there.
However, snacking does not allow the body to heal when it is constantly digesting food, because digestion is one of the biggest drains on your body’s energy. It is better to eat 2 or 3 fixed meals per day to allow the body get as much physiological rest as possible.
But if you are going to snack, it's important to choose healthy options.
An important thing to keep in mind when it comes to healthy eating is that you need to be ready for when the snacking urge strikes to avoid unhealthy snacks. Try carving out a chunk of time to cut up some produce and portion your snacks. Maybe even store them in serving-size containers in your fridge and cupboard!
